23 December 2020

With the announcement that Suffolk will be moving into tier 4 at 00:01 on Boxing Day, the Bury St Edmunds and Lowestoft branches of Suffolk Archives, and the public areas of The Hold in Ipswich, will be closed from Thursday 24 December. Reopening will be subject to government guidance. The archive services at our Ipswich branch remain closed to the public until the full move to The Hold has taken place, most likely in early 2021.

Visitors who had already booked appointments to access the archives at our Bury St Edmunds or Lowestoft branches, or tickets to visit the exhibition at The Hold, will be contacted individually.

We will endeavour to continue with a remote enquiry, research, and digitisation service, while also continuing with preparations for the move to The Hold, but this may be subject to change.

There is no change to the services users can access online; they can still browse the website and search the catalogue, as well as purchase and download digital images. Further information is available on our Using the Website page.

We will continue to update this page as and when anything changes, or new information becomes available.
